American Idol is holding open auditions in Nashville this Friday, June 5 at Music City Center during CMA Fest - and the show's own poster boy for the event is someone who didn't even sign up himself.
Chris Tungseth, who went on to reach the Top 7 of American Idol Season 24, revealed that a friend secretly registered him for the show just months after he graduated from college. He showed up to his audition with no plan, sang an original song called "Lonely Road" written for his late father - a Minnesota pastor - and walked out with a ticket to the live show.
"Someone actually signed me up so I had no idea what I was doing," Tungseth said. "Go down there, met the producers, sang for them, they said you're going to go to the live show and now I'm here."
American Idol is using his story to remind anyone on the fence about Friday's auditions: the next great voice doesn't need a perfect plan. It just needs to show up.
