The band introduced the song to fans as an offering meant to meet listeners exactly where they are, describing it as both a confession and a plea directed toward God. According to the band, the song was born out of a season of real sorrow - the hard truth that holding onto bitterness never leads anywhere whole, paired with the ache of knowing past failures can't simply be undone. The single's cover art carries that battlefield imagery literally, picturing a lone cannon standing in a misty field beneath a mountain - a quiet, weathered image for a song about the ongoing internal fight to lay down self and choose surrender instead.
