Marvel Studios has officially unveiled the cast of its long-awaited "X-Men" reboot, and the reveal came with a few surprises. Sadie Sink, Kit Connor, Christopher Abbott, Inde Navarrette, Maya Boyd, and Adam Driver will star in the new film, coming in May 2028.
The announcement was made Friday at Disney's D23 Expo, where Kevin Feige unveiled the castings alongside a release date of May 5, 2028. The film stars Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, and Maya Boyd as Storm, with Adam Driver joining as the villain Mr. Sinister.
The role of Storm went to a name few casual moviegoers expected. Boyd comes from the world of Broadway, where she led the musical "& Juliet," and she had just wrapped her Broadway debut in a straight play, "Joe Turner's Come and Gone," opposite Taraji P. Henson and Cedric the Entertainer. Boyd, born November 26, 2002, studied musical theatre at the University of Michigan before making her Broadway debut in "Merrily We Roll Along."
Rogue also went to a rising name. Navarrette's casting was a surprise, as the role had previously been rumored to go to other actresses, though it was known she had been meeting with director Jake Schreier. Abbott, meanwhile, brings Tony-nominated dramatic weight to Professor X, while Driver - known for his intensity on screen - steps into the villain role as Mr. Sinister.
Jake Schreier, who previously directed Marvel Studios' "Thunderbolts*," will helm the untitled film, which releases exclusively in theaters on May 5, 2028. It marks the first proper X-Men movie made within the MCU itself, following years of the mutants existing only in Fox's earlier films
Boyd's path - from college theater, to Broadway understudy roles, to one of the biggest franchises in film - is the kind of story that resonates beyond the box office.
