Nearly three weeks after Christy Knowings' death shocked fans of Nickelodeon's "All That," the official cause has been confirmed. According to a death certificate obtained by People magazine, the 46-year-old actress died of cardiac arrest, with asthma listed as the underlying cause and status asthmaticus and acute hypoxic respiratory failure noted as contributing conditions.
The certificate confirms what a family member had initially shared with TMZ: Knowings suffered a severe asthma attack on Aug. 7 that led to brain damage. She was placed on life support at a Los Angeles-area hospital, and her family made the decision to take her off life support on Aug. 11.
Knowings starred on "All That" from 1997 to 2000, appearing alongside Kenan Thompson, Kel Mitchell and Amanda Bynes, and later appeared on "Sesame Street" with her twin brother, Chris Knowings. Thompson previously paid tribute to his former castmate online, calling her "a real one."
Knowings was open about her Christian faith, often sharing testimony about her walk with Jesus on social media - a legacy fans and fellow believers continue to lean on as they process this latest update. Her family has not issued a new statement since the death certificate's release.
