How Is Bruce Willis Doing Today? Emma Heming Willis Opens Up About the Guilt of Caregiving

Bruce Willis' wife, Emma Heming Willis, is speaking candidly about a side of caregiving she says people don't often talk about: guilt.

In a new interview with Hello magazine, Heming Willis explained that even years into caring for her husband, who lives with frontotemporal dementia (FTD), she still struggles daily with guilt whenever she steps away to care for herself. She said that reality is common among care partners, who often feel it's nearly impossible not to feel guilty for taking any time for themselves.

Heming Willis described her grief over Bruce's diagnosis as constant rather than something she's worked through and moved past. Because FTD is progressive, she said, the family is regularly grieving new losses as the disease changes different parts of who Bruce is - even as they hold onto who he remains.

Despite the heaviness, Heming Willis said there's real light in their story too. She described watching her family rally around Bruce, each person supporting him and expressing love in their own way, as one of the most beautiful things she's witnessed - a reflection, she said, of the love Bruce built with the people around him over decades.

Willis, 71, retired from acting in 2022 after an aphasia diagnosis that progressed to FTD the following year. Since then, Heming Willis has become one of the most visible voices in FTD advocacy, regularly sharing updates on caregiving and their family's journey with the disease.

As the Willis family continues to speak openly about both the hardship and the love in their story, many in the Christian community have continued to hold them in prayer, finding encouragement in their honesty through such a difficult season.
