In a 2016 interview, Garner said she grew up in church and that the faith-based film Miracles from Heaven helped her family return to a Methodist church.

Garner was raised in Charleston, West Virginia, where she attended a local United Methodist church every Sunday.

Speaking to Good Morning Texas to promote the film, she said, "I grew up going to church every Sunday of my life." After moving to Los Angeles, she said church was not part of the culture there, but "it didn't mean that I lost who I was."

Miracles from Heaven tells the true story of Annabel Beam, a Texas girl cured of a chronic digestive disorder after falling from a tree. Garner played her mother, Christy Beam. Garner said that making the film and talking about it at home showed her that her family wanted "the structure" of weekly church. She called it "a great gift" of the film that it took them back to a local Methodist church.

Christian Today noted that Garner rarely speaks publicly about her faith.

Those remarks are from 2016, and no newer interview on her faith was found at the time of writing.

Looking back on that role, Garner's words point to church as a steady part of her life.
