Alan Dysert, the actor who played con man Sean Cudahy on ABC's "All My Children" and later became a respected acting teacher in Nashville, has died at 75.
His wife, Michele Dysert, announced that he passed away on Oct. 23, 2026, in a Facebook post shared on his page. No cause of death was given. She wrote that Alan faced many health challenges over the years but approached life with determination, humor, and gratitude. She also asked loved ones to "remember Alan with a smile" and celebrate the joy he brought.
Dysert appeared in 79 episodes of "All My Children" during the 1980s, after making his acting debut on the sitcom "Soap" in 1978. Raised on a farm in rural Illinois, he studied at the University of Illinois before moving into comedy and acting.
Later in life, he founded The Actor's School in 1991 and taught acting in the Nashville area. His wife said thousands looked up to him as a mentor. He also wrote, directed, produced, and acted in the 2015 film "The Senator." His most recent credit was the 2026 independent film "The Legend of Van Dorn," which he produced and filmed in Tennessee.
In his 2023 memoir, "Lights, Camera, Cancer!", Dysert wrote about living for more than a decade with a rare, aggressive, and incurable cancer. He described four major surgeries, a recurrence, and many rounds of chemotherapy, and said he kept teaching, acting, and producing through it all.
He is survived by his wife, Michele, and his sons, Cody and Cooper.
JubileeCast keeps the Dysert family in its prayers during this time.
