Adele has reignited hopes of a musical comeback after a brief YouTube name change coincided with reports that her fifth studio album could be taking shape. However, fans awaiting a release date still have no verified official announcement.
Reports published on October 23 said the singer's YouTube display name briefly changed from "Adele" to "Adele Adkins" before reverting. That detail complicates suggestions that she has permanently rebranded for her next musical chapter. Adele has not publicly explained the reported switch.
The timing helped fuel speculation. In an October 20 report, The Sun claimed Adele had been recording at London's Church Studios and had booked, then cancelled, a secret performance at Camden's Roundhouse to test new material. An unnamed source suggested a record could arrive in 2027. Those claims remain a press report rather than an announcement from Adele or her representatives.
Some fans have interpreted the name change as a possible clue to a self-titled album. But that theory goes beyond the available evidence: a temporary profile update does not establish an album title, a new artistic direction or the start of a promotional campaign. Reports of the fan speculation have offered no confirmation from the singer.
The excitement also follows Adele's previously stated desire to step away. In July 2024, she said she had no plans for new music and wanted a substantial break to explore other creative interests. That statement described her intentions then; it does not establish whether those plans have since changed.
As of October 27, the official website checked for this report continues to feature 30, 25, 21 and 19, without announcing a fifth album or release date.
For listeners, the prospect is tantalising: Adele may have another chapter to share. For now, though, the comeback story rests on reported studio activity and an unexplained account change. The announcement fans are waiting for still needs to come from Adele herself.
