Kelly Clarkson wiped away tears on Monday's The Voice after 19-year-old Brayden Howell was eliminated in the Battle Rounds, and he used his final words to credit God.
Brayden Howell is a 19-year-old singer from North Carolina on Team Riley. He lost his Battle to Cade Mower after the two sang "Wondering Why" by the Red Clay Strays, and coach Riley Green picked Mower.
Asked by host Carson Daly to share a few words, Howell said that a year ago he was in the hospital for brain surgery, and now he was standing on The Voice stage. He called it a "testimony to God."
Clarkson, who coaches a different team, said Howell holds a special place in her heart. She added that she would have used a steal on him right away if she had one.
On Instagram, Howell wrote that he had considered giving up music at times, but that God had other plans. He said the show gave him purpose and the will to keep making music for the rest of his life, and he thanked Green, his mentor Carly Pearce and the other coaches.
