An Elizabeth Holmes documentary has slipped ahead of a Batman villain at the North American box office-but the weekend's winner could still change.
A24's You Can See Everything earned an estimated US$10.6 million over October 30-November 1, narrowly beating the $10.4 million projected for Warner Bros. and DC Studios' Clayface. With approximately $200,000 separating them, final figures could reverse the order.
Directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, You Can See Everything examines the disgraced Theranos founder. The documentary reaches the top spot in its third weekend, taking its domestic earnings to approximately $63.9 million against a reported production budget of $7 million. Its climb gives an unconventional release a striking victory over a major comic-book property.
For Clayface, the close contest comes alongside a substantial second-weekend decline. The film's estimated domestic takings fell 57%, bringing its North American total to $44.1 million. Overseas ticket sales provide additional support, with its worldwide earnings projected to reach approximately $83 million.
Laika's animated Wildwood placed third with an estimated $7.5 million, followed by the Olivia Colman and Alexander Skarsgård fantasy Wicker with $4.1 million. Street Fighter rounded out the top five with $3.2 million.
The weekend nevertheless offered exhibitors little Halloween cheer. Saturday's festivities drew audiences away from cinemas, leaving overall North American ticket sales expected to finish below $56 million, potentially the second-lowest weekend of the year.
