Prince Harry says repairing his relationship with the royal family is a priority, and new reports about his low public profile have renewed talk about his bond with Kate Middleton. Here is what is confirmed.
In an interview with GQ published Oct. 20, the 42-year-old Duke of Sussex said he hopes to reconcile with King Charles III and Prince William. CBC quoted him as calling reconciliation "the most important thing." Harry and Meghan moved back to the UK with their two children in August, six years after stepping back from royal duties in 2020.
Is Prince Harry reaching out to Kate Middleton? No direct message has been confirmed. The Times reported, citing a source close to Harry, that he and Meghan have no public engagements planned while King Charles is on a nine-day Caribbean tour. The source said Harry "doesn't set out" to draw attention from his father or from William, who is due to visit India next month for the Earthshot Prize. Kate is reportedly expected to join him. Some outlets have called this a respectful gesture toward Kate, but that is commentary, not confirmation.
A Harry spokesperson also said a comment in the GQ interview about people who don't want to work things out was not aimed at any family member. Royal historian Carolyn Harris told CBC that a personal reconciliation between the King and his grandchildren seems more likely than a wider family reconciliation.
What did Prince Harry use as his last name in the British Army? Wales. CNN lists his military name as Captain Harry Wales.
In a 2025 BBC interview, Harry said he has "forgiven" his family. JubileeCast joins readers in praying for healing and peace in the royal family.
