The iPhone 6 and iPhone six plus were launched on September 9th in an event held at the Flint center in Cupertino, California. Many people fell in love with Apple's new product for it promised to have a bigger screen and a longer battery life. With pre-orders open, the company received 4 million orders for the iPhone 6 on the first day which was an unexpected demand according to Apple Inc. The order numbers for the new Apple iPhone has doubled the order numbers of its predecessor, the iPhone 5, two years ago.
This development has forced Apple Inc. to urge its waiting customers to wait until next month for their new phone since the supply at the moment can't meet the demand. Nevertheless, deliveries of the new phone will begin on Friday and is expected to continue all through October. According to analysts, with first-day pre-orders hitting four million units when the weekend hits the orders are expected to sky rocket up to 10 million units but this are just estimations.
"Assuming preorders are similar to the 40 percent of first weekend sales for the iPhone 5, this would imply iPhone 6/6 plus first weekend sales could be around 10 million," Wells Fargo Securities analysts wrote in a note. iPhone 5 received 2 million pre-orders in the first day and sold over 5 million phones in the first weekend, which was in 2012.
The iPhone 5s and 5cs which Apple launched last year sold 9 million units in the first three days although the company did not reveal the preorder numbers. "Apple will be selling every iPhone it can make, at least through October. Because of this the first weekend sales are typically more indicative of supply than demand," analysts Raymond James said.
The iPhone 6 will be available for supply/delivery by September 19th. The iPhone six is to have a 4.7 inch screen display. The 5.5 inch display iPhone six plus according to the Apple website revealed it needed a month more before supply can commence. The base price for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus on contract is set at $199.
Janney Capital market analysts believe that the demand for bigger screens was the cause for the large pre-orders for the new iPhone.
