Sony Project Morpheus: A Virtual Reality Headset and the "Summer Lesson" Video Game; Morpheus Release Date & Price Still Unknown

Sony Computer Entertainment announced their Project Morpheus as "a virtual reality system that expands the world of PlayStation 4". It's a virtual reality headset that supports gesture controls, allowing you to play interactive games, and Tekken video game developers introduced a new game called "Summer Lesson" that demonstrates the use of this new game technology.

In the game, the player transports into a virtual bedroom of a Japanese schoolgirl, and the player can interact with her through nodding or shaking of the head while wearing the Morpheus. The game's goal is pretty simple. The player has to help the schoolgirl do her studies.

Tekken series director Katsuhiro Harada said, "This Morpheus Summer Lesson uses the Morpheus' function in order to give a sense of reality to the character. It works so that even the person wearing it can't tell the difference between reality and the image".

Project Morpheus was officially introduced at the annual Game Developers Conference in March. It's still in its first stage of development. PlayStation Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida says, "We are still really trying to define or discover what works and what's required for the hardware tech. Our team feels that we're getting closer, but there are certain things that still have to be improved to make a good consumer product". He also said, "Virtual reality is the next innovation from PlayStation that will shape the future of games".

To date, the developer kits for the headset have a 1080p output display, a 360-degree head tracking, a 90-degree field view, PlayStation Move and DualShock 4 support, and a spatial sound system.

As for now, Sony Project Morpheus release date and price are still unknown.
