Oculus Rift 'Crescent Bay' prototype unveiled, a "massive leap" over DK2: Allows 360-degrees head-tracking

Oculus has decided to introduce the prototype version of their headset, which will be Rift virtual reality configured. The name of the prototype is Crescent Bay. In a conference held in Los Angles it has been confirmed that this version will be ahead of the DK2 version by huge margin.

Crescent Bay been specially designed for 360 head tracking. The automated head tracking system will allow the users to move their head freely while listening with a new level of comfort. This version comes with much greater refresh rate and resolution. The CEO of Oculus recently said that the company has reached much closer to release the consumer version very soon and the device will allow consumers to experience a lot more from this high tech headset while gaming.

The head tracking system allows angle up to 360 and there is a camera on the backside. So the users will be more free and able to spin around in terms of dizziness occur. The integrated audio will let user to receive audio smoothly and it will be immersive as the visual effect. RealSpace3D licenses the audio surrounding system. So the 3D surrounding VR audio with HRTF and integrated reverberation will be a whole new additional package on a headset. So obviously this headset brings good news for gamers though the gamers still can't see the consumer version.

The headset is expected to be lighter than the prototypes introduced before. The very first prototype of Oculus the Rift was first introduced in 2012 and it started its journey o market in 2013 Spring. From then till now over 100,000 Rift has been shipped all over the world. The preorders for DK2 version is still in the hand of the company that are yet to be delivered.

While announcing the Crescent Bay, another device was shown which looked much similar to headphones from the 80's. But no news regarding its release date has been provided by the company. So the fans have to wait till the consumer version gets ready; to have its first glimpse.
