True Detective Season 2 Updates: New Cast, Plot, Spoilers, and Release Date
The American crime drama series True Detective is renewed for a second season, and expect the upcoming season 2 to have major changes, as the season will follow a different storyline with different characters and setting. Unlike the previous season, different directors will be directing every episode of the new season 2, and Justin Lin will be directing the first two episodes.
It was recently made official that Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn are playing the two main characters in the upcoming new season. Colin Farrell will be playing the role of Ray Velcro, "a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him". Vince Vaughn will take the role of Frank Semyon, "a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner".
The season 2 showrunner Nic Pizzolatto says that the synopsis for the second season will be "hard women, bad men, and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system".
HBO officially describes the upcoming new plot as "Three police officers and a career criminal must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder".
As for the new setting, Pizzolatto said, "It takes place in California - not Los Angeles, but some of the much lesser known venues of California - and we're going to try to capture a certain psychosphere ambiance of the place, much like we did in season one".
True Detective Season 2 premieres in the summer of 2015.
