Hillsong's Marty Sampson Finalizes His Decision to Leave Christianity in Tear-Filled Letter
Marty Sampson, former worship leader and songwriter of Hillsong Church and UNITED, had previously admitted his doubts about the Christian faith. Though he had said that he had not yet denounced his faith, yesterday in his Instagram, he came to a decision. He has decided to say goodbye to Christianity. Sampson, in a letter posted on Instagram, made it clear that he was no longer a Christian, he writes, "it was amazing being one of you, but I'm not any more."
Sampson wrote his "Dear John" letter to Christianity with tears in his eyes: "I've got tears running down my face because it's so true."
With gratitude in his heart, Sampson thanked Hillsong Church's senior pastor Brian Houston and his family for their love, their personal care towards him, and the opportunity to write for the mega church's worship collective. "I love you @brianchoustonI love you @bobbiehouston I love you @joelhouston I love you @benjaminhouston I love you @lauratoggs - Thank you for all the amazing memories, for the nights at your place sleeping on the floor, for the amazing times when I saw what a BEAUTIFUL family looks like. For the days where I fit in, where I was received with love, Brian when you officiated my wedding, for asking how my kids were, for letting me write songs and sing and have trust in me to go around the world doing what I always dreamed of doing. Thank you for the good times and for all the belief you have put into so many. You are genuinely inspiring, I love you."
He also thanked his church family for the love they have had shown over the last twenty years towards him. "To @hillsong my beautiful family of amazing souls, I have loved being close to you all and I really miss being around you all. You are some of the most wonderful people I know. Thank you for all the love and all the grace and kindness you have shown me for these many years. To the CHURCH of Jesus Christ, I forgive you, and I LOVE you."
Lastly, Sampson sends his love to all Christians. "I love you all, and I always will. I won't forget how much I love Christians, even if they don't love me, I will always love you. Sorry for any bad words I have ever said about any of you. Forgive me. I love you all."
