The Global Methodist Church (GMC) - a theologically conservative, worldwide denomination founded in 2022 as an alternative to the United Methodist Church (UMC) - has officially surpassed 7,000 member congregations across the globe, church leaders announced this week.
The milestone was confirmed publicly on the denomination's Facebook page and celebrated by bishops and leaders as evidence of sustained growth, spiritual vitality, and a collective commitment to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
"This moment reminds us that growth isn't just measured in numbers - it's found in repentance, renewal, and lives being transformed by Jesus Christ," the Global Methodist Church stated in its announcement. "As Wesleyans, we are called to holiness of heart and life, to return to the Lord, and to carry His love into every community."
GMC Bishop Mark J. Webb emphasized the significance of the achievement, calling it "a reflection of the faithfulness of God and the willingness of His people to boldly follow the Holy Spirit's leading and God's call."
Since its launch in May 2022, the Global Methodist Church has drawn congregations from a variety of denominational backgrounds and contexts. Many of the member churches - especially from the United States - left the UMC amid longstanding theological debates, particularly regarding biblical teachings on marriage and ministry.
The denomination, rooted in Wesleyan-Arminian theology, upholds a commitment to scriptural holiness, discipleship in Jesus Christ, and a biblically grounded understanding of the Christian life. Its Book of Doctrines and Discipline, adopted at the GMC's first Convening General Conference in 2024, outlines its governance and theological convictions.
The GMC's growth - now exceeding 7,000 congregations - is widely seen by its leaders as an affirmation of its mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ who worship passionately, love extravagantly, and bear witness boldly in every community.
