The Heavy Music World Is Grieving Today
Bo Lueders - founding guitarist of Chicago industrial hardcore band Harm's Way and co-host of the beloved HardLore podcast - has died at the age of 38. His band confirmed the news on April 2 in a statement posted to social media.
"It is with heavy, broken hearts that we share that our beloved Bo Lueders has passed away," the statement reads. "He will be remembered for his unwavering empathy and compassion for his friends and family and his magnetic, inimitable presence on and off the stage. We kindly ask for grace and privacy as we navigate this extremely difficult time."
No cause of death was given.
A Life Built on Music and Community
Lueders co-founded Harm's Way in Chicago in 2006. Over nearly two decades, the band released five albums and carved out a devoted following in the hardcore and industrial metal world, with their most recent record, Common Suffering, arriving in 2023.
Beyond the stage, Lueders co-hosted HardLore - a podcast launched in 2022 alongside Colin Young of Twitching Tongues - dedicated to sharing the stories of life on the road. Guests included Randy Blythe of Lamb of God, Freddy Cricien of Madball, and Jeremy Bolm of Touché Amoré. It was a labor of love for a man who clearly believed the stories behind the music mattered as much as the music itself.
His Last Post Was a Tribute to Another Lost Voice
In one of his final posts on Instagram, Lueders shared a photo of a mural in Deep Ellum, Texas, honoring Riley Gale - the frontman of Power Trip who passed away in August 2020. It was a quiet, telling gesture from a man who used his platform to remember others, to point people toward something bigger than himself.
That instinct - to pause and honor the ones who came before - speaks to a character that leaves a mark long after the music stops.
The heavy music community is mourning today. So are the people who simply knew Bo Lueders as someone who showed up, who cared, and who believed the stories of broken and searching people were worth telling.
He was 38 years old.
