A Musicianary’s Calling: Alex-Zsolt on Faith, Family, and a Life Shaped by Worship

For Alex-Zsolt, music has never been just a gift-it has always been a calling shaped by faith, family, and a life marked by God's hand. From the earliest moments of his childhood, where melodies would calm him as an infant, to discovering hymns one note at a time in church, his journey reflects a deep and personal connection between music and ministry. But at the heart of his story lies something even more profound: the enduring faith and perseverance of his mother, whose journey from Hungary became a living testimony of God's faithfulness-one that continues to inspire and define Alex-Zsolt's mission today.

Q: You're known as a pianist, arranger, and ministry-driven artist. How would you describe who you are at your core, and how do those different roles come together in your calling?

At my core I am a musicianary. A missionary who uses music to travel around the world to impact lives. This is at a church setting, theater, Disney, presidential museums and libraries, or wherever God sends me. There is power in instrumental music. I can play in any language around the world.

Q: Your story is deeply connected to your family's journey-especially your mother's immigration from Hungary. How has her faith and perseverance shaped both your life and your ministry?

This is such a great question. Her faith kept her alive during some very difficult and horrific times in Hungary. She was born into WWII, was 16 during the Hungarian Revolution of 1956, and it was her faith in God that sustained and protected her and made her the strong woman of God that she was then and is today. So, for me, this was the example that I saw growing up and still today. It is just proof that God really does arrange and orchestrate our lives for His purpose. My mother's journey is a constant reminder of God's goodness, faithfulness, and protection. Our lives would be radically different if we both were still in Hungary today. Her journey is also the reason that my ministry is partnered in missions with Food for the Hungry, where we have found sponsorships for 1,000 children in over 25 countries. All of this is the fabric of God's ultimate plan.

Q: For you, music is clearly more than a career-it's an extension of calling. When did you first sense that your gift at the piano was part of God's purpose for your life?

You are right. It is my calling. Way more than a career in music. At 18 I had to make the decision if I would do Christian entertainment or Christian ministry. There is a difference between the two. Nothing wrong with Christian entertainment, but Christian ministry is where you get in the trenches, walk with people in the seasons, and meet them where they are. This is where you can really change, encourage, and impact lives. I accepted Christ at the age of 12, dedicated my gifts and talents to the Lord at 14, and released my first project at the age of 17. I felt a strong pull to ministry at the age of 14. I said a short prayer back then, "God, use me!" I'm thankful that He has been able to use me to share the Good News-the testimony and gospel of Jesus Christ. This really is my assignment from Heaven.

Q: Your album At The Ivories blends Broadway, classical, hymns, and worship. How do you discern which musical expressions best communicate what God has placed on your heart?

"At the Ivories" was birthed out of a concert I have done from the past titled, "A Night at the Ivories." The concept was to do several styles of music in one night. These concerts were done in only theater settings as an outreach event. The purpose was to do such a wide range of musical styles that people would enjoy, but also to have a turning point in the concert where I could minister and share the gospel. It would be the hymns and worship music that I used that would best communicate what God placed on my heart. That was the turning point in the concert. People would bring their believing and nonbelieving friends to this setting.

Q: You've collaborated with legendary artists and orchestras on this project. In the midst of such large-scale work, how do you stay spiritually grounded and keep the focus on ministry?

By being reminded that we are all level at the foot of the cross. None of us stand above or below the cross. I'm thankful for each opportunity that God sends my way. While it is incredible to me to have legendary artists and a world class and famous orchestra on this project, I'm reminded that none of it would have happened without God's divine intervention and plan. It's my prayer that all the music will connect and minister to all who listen. I also have a ministry board, family, and friends who help keep me grounded. I walk daily with the Lord and am constantly seeking His will, wisdom, and direction on my life and ministry. It's all in His hands according to His purposes.

Q: Looking ahead, what is God stirring in your heart for future projects, and how do you hope your music will continue to impact people in the years to come?

I pray that God keeps me going with the calling of being a musicianary. This is my 28th year as a traveling musicianary, and my prayer is that God can still use me to connect and minister with powerful instrumental music. Sometimes a song can minister more than 1,000 sermons combined. God created music to be able to pierce through our hearts in worship while giving Him all the glory. We sing hymns as they are reflections on how we think about God. We sing worship songs as they are reflections on how we feel about God. God is equally concerned about both. This is the power of music throughout the ages and how it connects to our minds, hearts, and souls now and into eternity. Can you imagine what the music in Heaven will be like? I still pray the prayer I said at 14, "God, use me!" As far as future projects, I'm seeking God's direction on what He would like me to do next. I don't know what it is right now, but I know that God always has a plan!
