Saturday Night Live's penultimate episode of Season 51 aired last night - and it delivered.

Oscar winner Matt Damon returned to Studio 8H for his third time as host, joined by Vermont singer-songwriter Noah Kahan as musical guest in what turned out to be one of the stronger episodes of the season. Two New Englanders. One stage. It worked.

The Cambridge native's legacy on the show spans nearly 30 years, from his first cameo in 2001 all the way to last night - a run that includes some of the most memorable cold opens in recent SNL history.

Last night was no different. Damon reprised his Brett Kavanaugh impression alongside Colin Jost as Pete Hegseth and Aziz Ansari as FBI Director Kash Patel, the three meeting at a Washington bar for sharp political banter that landed as one of the night's biggest moments. Other highlights included Damon as a Navy admiral in a Godzilla movie parody, a charming husband in a mom-themed romance film trailer, a concerned dad in a cat litter commercial, and a fast-talking auctioneer closing out the night.

On the music side, Kahan made every second count. He opened with the title track of his new album The Great Divide, then followed with "Doors" - his second performance from the 17-track record. The Great Divide dropped April 24, 2026 and has already made history. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 389,000 units - the biggest entrance for any rock album since 2014, and the biggest streaming week for any album in 2026 with over 215 million streams.

Kahan heads out on The Great Divide Tour starting June 11 in Orlando, running through December 7 across North America, Europe, and Oceania. Last night's SNL performance was the national television launch of that entire era.

Season 51 closes next week with former cast member Will Ferrell returning as host alongside Paul McCartney as musical guest - already one of the most anticipated finales in recent memory.

Whether you know Damon from Good Will Hunting or the Bourne films, or Kahan from "Stick Season" playing on repeat - last night was proof that great storytelling, on screen or on a stage, still brings people together. That kind of shared experience is something worth showing up for.
