She has helped write some of the most-sung worship songs in the world. Today, for the first time, she steps into the spotlight alone.
Jenn Johnson - co-founder of Bethel Music and the voice behind global anthems like "Goodness of God" and "Holy Forever" - officially released her debut solo album HAPPY today, May 22, through Bethel Music. The 12-track project arrives after years of ministry as a featured voice on Bethel's collective recordings and marks a genuinely new chapter for one of contemporary worship's most recognizable artists.
The album is personal in the deepest sense. Johnson wrote "Mad at God" - one of its most talked-about tracks - while processing the loss of her mother-in-law. The song doesn't shy away from grief or frustration; it holds space for the moments when faith feels more like a question than an answer, while still pointing toward the truth that God is near. "In the middle of the hurt - and the questions we may never have answers to - it's okay to tell Him when we're mad," Johnson said.
That honesty runs throughout HAPPY. Johnson describes the album as "a mosaic - a walk through my life. A mosaic is made from broken pieces that come together to create something beautiful. In many ways, that's what life looks like. Moments of joy, moments of heartbreak, seasons of growing, and seasons of healing. But through it all, God is present."
The 12-track project features guest appearances from Kari Jobe, Brooke Ligertwood, Tiffany Hudson of Elevation Worship, Gable Price, and Brian Johnson, among others. It was produced by Josh Holiday and Paul Mabury - the same team behind some of Bethel's most enduring recordings.
Among the tracks: "Thank You Lord" featuring Brooke Ligertwood, "Here In Your Arms" with Brian Johnson, "Love Of Christ" with Kari Jobe, and "Walk With Me" featuring Tiffany Hudson. For a worship community that has sung Johnson's songs in churches for over a decade, hearing her tell her own story in this much depth is something different - and something worth sitting with.
HAPPY is available now on all streaming platforms and for purchase via Bethel Music.
