The Freedom 250 concert series entered a new chapter over the weekend - and this time it was not an artist backing out. It was the event's own backer calling for it to end.

Here is the full updated picture as of June 2, with the Great American State Fair on the National Mall now 23 days away.

What Happened Over the Weekend

After five of nine announced performers backed out within 48 hours of the lineup being released, a Truth Social post called for cancelling the concert series altogether, suggesting it be replaced with a large-scale rally. The post described the remaining artists as "overpriced" and "third rate." A follow-up message proposed bringing in a speaker to "give a major speech, rallying the Country forward" in place of the concert lineup.

No official cancellation has been announced. The Great American State Fair event page as of June 2 still lists the June 26 "I Love the 90s" show as scheduled.

Who Is Still Confirmed

Three artists have publicly stated they will perform:

Vanilla Ice's management confirmed he is contracted and will appear on June 26. "He is proud to help celebrate America's 250th Anniversary! Everyone is welcome to attend and celebrate USA's Birthday and our Freedom!" CBS News

Fab Morvan of Milli Vanilli said in a statement: "I am here to entertain and unite people, not divide them. Let's celebrate life and music and take a trip down memory lane. I feel honored to be a part of the Great American State Fair as it will celebrate the 250 Year Anniversary of America."

C+C Music Factory's Freedom Williams posted a video saying that although he does not support the administration, he still plans to perform. Note: a separate C+C Music Factory member has disputed Williams' standing in the group. Flo Rida has not yet publicly commented on his participation.

Who Has Dropped Out

Five of the original nine announced performers have officially withdrawn: Morris Day and The Time, Young MC, Martina McBride, The Commodores, and Bret Michaels. Most cited concerns that the event had become politicized, saying they were not told about political involvement when they were originally booked.

What Freedom 250 Is Saying

Freedom 250 spokesperson Rachel Reisner said: "Freedom 250 is a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) dedicated to uniting Americans around the nation's 250th anniversary. Freedom 250 is focused on our signature celebrations and events that honor our history and engage all Americans - welcoming all who share our goal of commemorating this milestone in a way that uplifts and unites America."

What Has Not Changed

The Great American State Fair still runs June 25 through July 10 on the National Mall, bringing together all 56 U.S. states and territories for a World Fair-style celebration with exhibits, cultural programming, and mainstage performances. No official statement has been made about cancelling those broader events.

America's 250th birthday only happens once. Whether the music lineup holds together or not, the celebration of a nation's history - with all its complexity - is something worth marking. As the book of Psalms puts it, every generation is called to tell the next what God has done. That impulse - to remember, to gather, to celebrate - does not belong to any party.
