After 14 seasons, three NFL teams, and one Super Bowl ring, Russell Wilson is hanging up his cleats - and he did it in the most Russell Wilson way possible.
On Wednesday evening, the 37-year-old quarterback posted a heartfelt video to social media captioned "Thank You, Football. Love, #3," confirming his retirement from the NFL and announcing that he is joining CBS Sports' The NFL Today.
In the video, Wilson reflected on his NFL career and thanked coaches, teammates, and fans who supported him throughout the journey. He spoke about how his passion for the game turned into obsession, and how football shaped him into the man he is today - giving him a new family through his teammates.
Over 14 seasons, Wilson threw for 46,966 yards and 353 touchdowns, and rushed for an additional 5,568 yards and 31 touchdowns - numbers that will fuel a Hall of Fame conversation for years to come.
He fills a vacancy on The NFL Today left when former quarterback Matt Ryan departed to become president of football operations for the Atlanta Falcons.
Wilson's transition comes as no surprise. A devout Christian who became a follower of Jesus Christ at age 14, Wilson has consistently credited God for his platform - and this next chapter looks no different.
"To God be the glory" has always been his lane. Now, he'll carry it to a national broadcast stage.
