Eight years is a long time to carry a role. For Jonathan Roumie, it has been eight years of carrying the role - and as The Chosen moves toward its final season, the actor who brought Jesus to life for millions of viewers around the world is feeling every bit of what that ending means.
Speaking on the red carpet at the 2026 K-LOVE Fan Awards, Roumie told CBN News that the approaching end of the series feels "extremely bittersweet." "It's been 8 years of my life in this role and deepening my relationship with my faith in Christ," he said. "So it's going to be sad to see it go."
But even in that sadness, Roumie sees the hand of God already moving forward. "The Lord has used it to prepare me for the next phase of my career, whatever that may look like," he said.
What makes this moment even more striking is how Roumie reflected on where he started. Before landing the role, he was in a difficult season - an actor grinding through years of small parts with no guarantee of breakthrough. Looking back on that now, his words are quietly stunning.
"It's a miracle that I'm here - that I'm standing here," he said. "Words don't describe... the odds of me making it through are astronomical. It's like making it to the Olympics. There are so few people who get the opportunity to do this. And the fact that the Lord allowed me an opportunity to break through and be seen - and provided me with the talent to sustain the series - it just blows my mind. I'm grateful every day."
Roumie also asked fans to keep him in prayer as he navigates the final chapters of portraying Jesus on screen - a role that has clearly transformed not just his career, but his faith.
Roumie's story is a powerful reminder that God's timing is never wasted - and that the seasons of waiting are often exactly the preparation needed for the moment He has planned. We are grateful for everything Jonathan Roumie has poured into this role, and we look forward to seeing where God leads him next.
