Beyoncé gave the BeyHive an unannounced Fourth of July gift Saturday, surprise-releasing "Morning Dew (Donk)" - her first new song in two years, and the beginning of a 60-day countdown to a milestone many fans have waited two decades for.

The track, co-written with Pharrell Williams, The-Dream, and Darius Dixon and produced by Beyoncé and Williams, has circulated in fragments online since 2013, when a snippet first leaked. Saturday marked its first official release, paired with a lyric video from longtime collaborator Cliff Watts built from archival footage.

The countdown ends September 4 - Beyoncé's 45th birthday, and the date set for a 20th-anniversary reissue of "B'Day," her 2006 sophomore album that debuted at No. 1 and produced hits like "Irreplaceable" and "Déjà Vu." "Morning Dew (Donk)" will appear on that reissue.

It's Beyoncé's first new music since 2024's "Cowboy Carter," the second installment in a reported trilogy that began with "Renaissance." No word yet on the third chapter.

Long before the stage name and the string of chart-topping albums, Beyoncé grew up singing in the choir at St. John's United Methodist Church in Houston. She's spoken about that foundation in interviews over the years, saying plainly, "I believe in God, and I work hard to please Him," and that she considers herself "about faith and spirituality more than religion" - a thread that's surfaced throughout her catalog, from gospel-inflected tracks to the choir sounds woven through "Cowboy Carter."

For now, fans have two months to count down - and a new old song to hold them over.
