As Prince Harry and Meghan Markle finalize their return to the United Kingdom, one detail has captured almost as much attention as the move itself: their rescue chickens aren't coming with them.
According to The Sun, the couple's dogs, Mia and Pula, will make the trip across the Atlantic, but their flock of rescue hens will remain at the family's Montecito estate, cared for by household staff. The chickens live in a coop the family has affectionately named "Archie's Chick Inn," after their son, Prince Archie.
The birds first became a public part of the Sussexes' California story during their 2021 sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey and later appeared in Meghan's Netflix series. Ahead of the move, Meghan shared a lighthearted video on Instagram featuring a tea towel reading, "People who take care of chickens are literally chicken tenders," playing "Chicken Fried" by the Zac Brown Band in the background - a nod fans took as her way of saying goodbye to her flock, at least for now.
The decision to keep the Montecito property, chickens included, has fueled speculation that Harry and Meghan may plan to split time between the U.S. and U.K. even after resettling in Britain. Sources have also confirmed the couple will keep their vacation home in Portugal as they begin this next chapter.
Archie and Lilibet are expected to start school in the U.K. this September, with the family's move reportedly coming together in the days ahead of the new term.
