Sandra Bullock Opens Up About Why Her Two Kids Always Come First

"Unless the kids are with me, I'm lost," the 62-year-old actress told Interview magazine, explaining that her son Louis, 16, and daughter Laila, 12, are the deciding factor behind every project she takes on. "If the kids can't be with me, I'm not going. The older they get, the bigger their schedules - and their schedules are more important than me telling a story, period."

Bullock said she built the filming schedule for her upcoming Practical Magic 2 around her children's lives rather than the other way around, telling reporters at a recent panel, "I'm not going to sacrifice my time with my kids... I'm raising my children, not anybody else." She's previously described her son as her "steadfast moral barometer," admitting she sometimes asks herself, "What would Louis do?"

Bullock, a single mother who raised Louis and Laila alongside her late partner Bryan Randall until his 2023 death, has adopted both of her children. She's spoken before about the timing of their arrivals feeling far bigger than coincidence - recalling that she learned about both adoptions while standing at her late mother's grave in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. "I feel beyond a shadow of a doubt that my mother brought me these children," she said - language that echoes a truth many parents of faith hold onto: that some of life's most important gifts arrive by a plan bigger than our own.
