Steve Ellis, the lead singer of the English band Love Affair, died on Oct. 30 at age 76. A message shared on social media said he died peacefully after complications from a chronic illness.
Ellis is best known for the band's 1967 version of "Everlasting Love." The song hit No. 1 in the United Kingdom when he was just 17. He started singing at 15 in a band called Soul Survivors, which later became Love Affair.
The song later found a second life in America. Carl Carlton's version reached No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1974, and it is still played on radio and at weddings today.
Tributes have been posted online since the news broke, and searches for his name have spiked in the past day.
