New details have emerged about the death of Walter Koenig, the actor who played navigator Pavel Chekov in Star Trek. According to People, as reported by USA Today, his death certificate lists chronic diastolic congestive heart failure as an underlying cause, with acute renal failure as a significant contributing condition.
Koenig died Sunday, Oct. 25, at his home in North Hollywood at age 90. His representative had earlier said he died of natural causes, and that his daughter Danielle and his niece were with him.
TMZ reports that, according to the death certificate it obtained, Koenig was cremated Oct. 30, with Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles listed as the place of final disposition, the same cemetery where his late son Andrew was laid to rest.
His representative remembered him this way: he helped inspire audiences with optimism, humor and an adventurous spirit.
A reflection on a full life
Koenig lived to 90, a milestone Psalm 90:12 speaks to when it asks God to teach us to number our days so that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Fans who grew up with Chekov are still sharing what his work meant to them.
