Dallas Jenkins Responds to Backlash Over Angels in ‘The Chosen’ Season 6 Teaser

Dallas Jenkins is asking viewers to wait for the full episode after a teaser for The Chosen Season 6 sparked debate over how the series depicts angels. The clip shows three armed, supernatural-looking figures preparing to intervene as soldiers approach Jesus. One figure, carrying a bow, drew particular attention for what some viewers interpreted as Native American-inspired styling.

The teaser, posted to the show's official X account on Nov. 1, ends with Jesus, played by Jonathan Roumie, shaking his head. Some viewers welcomed the scene as a creative interpretation of Jesus' arrest. Others questioned the costume choices and visual effects, with some comparing the figures to characters from Avatar. A few speculated that the imagery drew on the Book of Mormon. Jenkins has previously denied that the series borrows from Latter-day Saint theology.

"Some people make 'certainty' an idol," Jenkins wrote in a Nov. 3 Facebook post, as reported by ChurchLeaders. The series creator said he distinguishes confidence in God's authority from confidence in one's interpretation of a brief clip. He took particular issue with viewers who claimed to know what the figures represented, how the scene had been edited or what supernatural beings should look like. He encouraged people to keep debating the choices while staying curious about what the full episode would show.

The scene appears to draw on Matthew 26:53. In Matthew's account, Jesus tells a disciple to put away his sword and says that he could ask his Father for more than twelve legions of angels. The Gospel records Jesus' words without describing angels gathering at the arrest. The teaser turns that possibility into an image. Its final gesture brings the focus back to Jesus, who has the power to call for help and chooses to go with the men who have come to arrest him.

Season 6 follows the day of Jesus' crucifixion through the people who loved him and those who condemned him. Prime Video will release the first three episodes on Nov. 15, 2026, followed by one episode each week through Dec. 6. The finale is scheduled for a stand-alone theatrical release in spring 2027. Roumie returns alongside Shahar Isaac as Peter, Elizabeth Tabish as Mary Magdalene and Luke Dimyan as Judas.
