The Mighty No.9 Released Date and Latest News: An Interview with the Lead designer - Onimusha is the Inspiration of Mighty No. 9 not Mega Man
The Mighty No. 9 release date is tentatively scheduled for April next year. The Mighty No. 9 Kickstarter backers who pledge at least $80 USD will be eligible to receive the beta version of the game. The Kickstarter funds will be used for the further development of Mighty No. 9 as full pledged game.
Interview With Lead Designer
Siliconera posted an interview with the lead designer of Mighty No. 9 - Keiji Inafune. During the interview he revealed something about where he and his team get their inspiration in the development of Mighty No. 9.
Onimusha is the Inspiration
He said, "There's never been really something I couldn't put in a Mega Man that I'm now putting into Mighty No. 9. That being said, the sort of key areas we've drawn inspiration from - and this may be surprising for some people to hear - rather than Mega Man, it's Onimusha."
Keiji further elaborated his statements by describing what kind of Mighty No. 9 gameplay they had in mind.
Mighty No. 9 Gameplay
"In Onimusha, you had a system where the end user would be put into a scenario where they had to either suck a soul to get the soul bonus or attack an oncoming enemy." Mr Keiji also said that his team has plans to add an "absorption dash" in the game. This game feature will allow the player to engage the enemy from a safe distance then dash or charge through the enemy when he is already vulnerable. Player can also simply keep hitting the enemy from the safe distance without the need for contact.
Mr. Keiji explained another strategy of bringing an enemy near deaths door in order to completely siphon all of the enemy's power. However, Keiji said that the "moment to moment risk-reward scenario is always there, and that always represents the adrenaline rush for the end user."
