Gospel Star Ruth La'Ontra To Perform In MLK Day Celebration
In observance of the forthcoming Martin Luther King, Jr. Federal holiday, Stellar Gospel Music Award nominated singer Ruth La'Ontra will perform her inspiring new song, "Come Through," at the 37th annual Triangle Martin Luther King Jr. Interfaith Prayer Breakfast that takes place on Monday, January 16, 2017 at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel, 4700 Emperor Boulevard, Durham, NC 27703. The event will broadcast live locally on WRAL Channel 5 (Capitol Broadcasting/NBC) @8:00 AM with a repeat broadcast on WRAZ Channel 50 (FOX) at 12 PM.
"I wasn't even born when Dr. King was fighting the good fight for civil rights," says the 24-year old La'Ontra. "Being able to sing at this event, is an honor for me and a small way of me saying thank you to him and to all of the other civil rights pioneers who fought for the rights of the generations of people that came after them."
La'Ontra will continue to celebrate the legacy of Dr. King later that day when she takes the stage to sing a set of encouraging songs at the Meymandi Concert Hall (Duke Energy Center, 2 East South Street, Raleigh, NC 27601) for a 5:30 PM Martin Luther King, Jr. Evening Musical Celebration. The Martin Luther King All Children's Choir and The Christian Angels will also perform on the program. Both events are free of admission expense and open to the general public.
The Aberdeen, NC native has been singing since her childhood. After graduating from high school, La'Ontra launched her singing career with her brilliant debut project So Good (AL Jr. Music/Tyscot Records) in autumn 2013. The radio single "Count It All Joy" peaked at No. 25 on the Billboard Gospel Airplay chart and the riveting spiritual love song "I'm In Love With This Man" was featured in the film, Iniquity. La'Ontra's as yet untitled sophomore album will release later this year. Multi-award winning tunesmiths Anthony Brown and Justin Savage produced it.
