Amy Grant is opening up about the spiritual inspiration behind "Beautiful Lone Companion," while also honoring the legendary songwriter behind the song - Mike Reid.
Grant recently shared that Reid invited her to become a co-writer on the deeply reflective track after she had already spent years listening to and loving the original version.
"The amazing writer, Mike Reid, was kind to let me be a co-writer on his brilliant song," Grant wrote. "I had listened to the original version of this song so many times because it revived me, it blew like an ember in my heart, something that was so real."

She continued by explaining how the song awakened her imagination spiritually and emotionally.
"It awakened my imagination and I felt there's truth in this song of his and it connects the presence of God that I've studied my whole life in the Bible and the experience of, what if I imagined love walking in form."
For many music fans, Reid's name carries enormous weight far beyond Christian music circles. Before becoming widely respected as a songwriter, Reid first gained national recognition as an NFL player with the Cincinnati Bengals. But it was in songwriting that he ultimately left one of his deepest cultural marks.
Over the decades, Reid has written or co-written songs recorded by some of the biggest names in music, including Bonnie Raitt, Wynonna Judd, Ronnie Milsap, Collin Raye, and Tim McGraw.
Among his most celebrated compositions is "I Can't Make You Love Me," the emotionally devastating ballad immortalized by Bonnie Raitt that has since become regarded as one of the greatest heartbreak songs ever written. Reid also co-wrote Ronnie Milsap's Grammy-winning "Stranger in My House" and several major country hits throughout the 1980s and 1990s.
Known for combining emotional honesty with poetic depth, Reid's songwriting has long resonated with artists searching for songs that feel both intimate and timeless. That same emotional and spiritual sensitivity appears to have deeply impacted Amy Grant as she reflected on "Beautiful Lone Companion."
Grant's comments also highlight a theme that has defined much of her own music career: the intersection between faith, imagination, and lived human experience. Rather than speaking about theology only in abstract language, Grant often frames faith through emotion, memory, vulnerability, and relational presence.
Fans online especially connected with her phrase "love walking in form," which many interpreted as echoing themes of incarnation, divine companionship, and God's nearness in ordinary life.
The collaboration between Grant and Reid brings together two veteran storytellers whose music has consistently explored human longing, healing, grace, and hope with unusual honesty and emotional depth.
