Three weeks after winning American Idol Season 24, Hannah Harper has her next milestone already locked in - and it is a big one.
The 25-year-old Missouri native will make her official Grand Ole Opry debut on June 2, sharing the stage that night with Carrie Underwood - the Opry member and Idol judge who championed Harper throughout the entire competition - and ACM New Female Artist of the Year Avery Anna. Two performances are scheduled that evening at 7:00 PM and 9:30 PM.
The timing is part of the Opry's "Summer of the Century" celebration marking its 100th anniversary, with CMA Fest week kicking off the series. For Harper, it is a moment she described as almost too big to process. "I truly don't know if this will ever feel real," she wrote on Facebook when she announced the news. "What an overwhelming honor it is to step into that circle that carries so much history, legacy, and heart within country music. As a little girl, this was one of those dreams that felt far too big to even speak out loud."
The night carries its own full-circle weight. Underwood was the first to cry during Harper's original audition song "String Cheese" - a raw account of postpartum depression and motherhood that went viral and set Harper's run in motion. At the finale, Underwood was again moved to tears by Harper's performance of "Married Into This Town." After Harper's win, Underwood told Gold Derby: "I definitely see myself in her quite a bit. She's just relatable." She added, "Anything you need in the industry, I want to be available."
Harper also made history as the first female country artist to win American Idol since Underwood herself did it in 2005 - a 21-year gap Harper acknowledged with a mix of awe and purpose. "I hope that I make that genre proud, but also glorify God at the same time," she told USA Today. "I've been given this amazing platform to do so."
The Opry debut is the first stop in what becomes a packed week. On June 3, Harper performs at the 19 Recordings Takeover at Nashville's 6th and Peabody as part of CMA Fest. Her headlining String Cheese Tour then officially launches on June 5, running through November with theater and festival dates across the country.
She will bring her husband Devon Mendenhall and their three sons along for the road. As for how that will work, Harper's answer sounds exactly like something she would sing about: "We're going to figure it out."
For a woman whose Instagram bio still reads "Only a somebody to my babies and Jesus," the Opry circle is not just a career milestone. It is a testimony.
