"I Believe" arrived Wednesday, September 9, marking Rucker's first solo single since his 2023 album Carolyn's Boy. In a statement, Rucker explained the song came from wrestling with doubt in uncertain times. "This song is about remembering what you believe in when everything around you makes that hard," he said, adding that the track is meant as a reminder "to keep going."
The song points listeners toward love, truth, hope, and light, while turning distinctly upward in its closing lines - a direct prayer for those who feel like their prayers are going unanswered. Rucker has described "I Believe" as his "love letter to America," saying that even amid division and uncertainty, he still believes in people and in moving through darkness rather than giving in to it.
