The GiveSendGo campaign launched to help Pastor Andrew Sedra's family relocate after death threats at their Sydney home has surpassed its goal, with donations now totaling more than $319,000 AUD against an original $300,000 target.
The fund was set up after Sedra, his wife Noleen, and his brother Martin's family said four individuals - two of them hooded - showed up at their Cobbitty property on Sept. 3, cutting power to the home and threatening to kill them by name, including their five-week-old baby. New South Wales Police have confirmed one arrest connected to the incident and said they are preparing a security plan for both the family's home and Echo Church.
New details have since emerged about the scale of hostility the family says it has faced. Sedra told The Daily Declaration that police have logged more than 50 calls related to Echo Church in recent weeks, including hate speech complaints, prompting several visits from counter-terrorism officers. The family says the threats are tied to more than a year of backlash over their public stance on biblical sexuality and their ministry work.
Despite the ordeal, Sedra - who fled Egypt as a child after his own father received death threats for ministering to Muslim converts - said the family's resolve to continue preaching hasn't changed. "We will continue to preach the truth of the Bible with courage and boldness," the family wrote in their fundraising appeal.
