Alan Ritchson's action thriller "Runner" arrived on digital platforms Tuesday, Oct. 13, about a month after it opened in theaters. Prime Video's store lists it at the standard new-release purchase price of $24.99 in SD, HD, or UHD, according to Screen Rant. It's also available through the Apple TV Store, Fandango at Home, and YouTube. I did not find a confirmed rental price.
Is it streaming yet? Not on a subscription service. Angel Studios, the film's distributor, has not announced a date or platform for subscription streaming.
"Runner" opened Sept. 11 and has earned nearly $18 million worldwide, about $14.4 million of that in North America, against a reported $35 million budget, according to Screen Rant and Yahoo.
Rotten Tomatoes lists a 77% critics score and a 90% audience score. IMDb users rate it 6.3 out of 10, and it reached No. 12 on IMDb's most popular movies list ahead of its digital debut, CBR reported. Reviews praise the action and the chemistry between Ritchson and Owen Wilson but criticize the story.
Ritchson plays Hank Malone, a former soldier turned courier. Wilson plays Ben Bishop, who is carrying a donor organ meant to save a little girl's life. A cartel is hunting them both. It runs 97 minutes and is rated PG-13, with action violence that parents should preview.
Angel Studios, known for faith-friendly films like "Sound of Freedom," says it builds stories meant to "amplify light." The film's heart is a stranger going to extraordinary lengths to save a child, which echoes Galatians 6:2: "Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ."
