Hailey Bieber Opens Up About PMDD After Son’s Birth: Talking Helps Her Feel ‘Less Alone’

Hailey Bieber is speaking about her experience with premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) after welcoming her son, Jack Blues, and the isolation that can accompany a condition many people still know little about.

In a recent interview with Women's Wear Daily, the Rhode founder discussed how motherhood deepened her interest in women's health. Bieber, who welcomed Jack with husband Justin Bieber in August 2024, said her own difficulties helped her recognise the need for more research and open discussion.

"Conversation, for me personally, makes me feel less alone," she said.

Bieber explained that hearing other women describe their experiences can make personal struggles feel less isolating. Her concerns also extend to conditions affecting friends and family, including endometriosis and polycystic ovary syndrome.

She previously discussed her PMDD diagnosis during a March appearance on the SHE MD podcast. According to that account, she received the diagnosis approximately six months after giving birth. Although she had experienced PMS before pregnancy, she noticed that her emotional symptoms before menstruation had become considerably more intense, making everyday concerns feel overwhelming.

According to Mayo Clinic, PMDD is a severe form of premenstrual syndrome that can disrupt daily activities and relationships. Symptoms can include pronounced sadness, anxiety, irritability and mood changes, alongside physical symptoms such as fatigue and bloating. They typically begin seven to 10 days before menstruation and continue into the first few days of a period. People experiencing these symptoms can speak with a healthcare professional about assessment and treatment.

Bieber's comments come as Rhode commits $5 million over three years to a partnership with the Foundation for Women's Health. The initiative will support research into women's health, connecting her public advocacy with funding aimed at addressing gaps in care and understanding.
