Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Netflix Films Face Fresh Questions Over Progress

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's move into scripted films is facing renewed scrutiny after Page Six reported that two of their Netflix projects remain in development, with sources claiming little apparent progress since March.

The films, Meet Me at the Lake and The Wedding Date, are adaptations of bestselling romance novels being developed through the couple's Archewell Productions. However, another source cited by the outlet said the time involved reflected the normal demands of adapting books for the screen. The report did not establish that either film had been cancelled.

Meet Me at the Lake, based on Carley Fortune's novel, was announced in 2023. The story follows Fern and Will, whose brief encounter leads to a promise to reunite a year later. When they meet again much later than planned, their relationship unfolds against questions of grief, family responsibility and second chances.

Fortune offered a more specific update in June 2026, saying a director was attached and the screenplay was undergoing revisions. She also described conversations with Meghan and Archewell executive Tracy Ryerson about the novel's treatment of motherhood, loss and mental health, expressing confidence in the team handling the adaptation. Her comments provided evidence of development work, although they did not establish when filming would begin.

The couple's other romantic comedy, The Wedding Date, adapts Jasmine Guillory's 2018 debut novel. Girls Trip screenwriter Tracy Oliver was announced as its writer and a producer alongside the Sussexes. The story begins with two strangers meeting in a stalled elevator before agreeing to attend a wedding together. When the adaptation was announced in December 2025, casting and a production timetable had not been disclosed.

The attention surrounding these films follows Netflix's August 2025 announcement that it had extended its relationship with Archewell through a multiyear first-look agreement. Netflix included Meet Me at the Lake among its upcoming projects and highlighted the partnership's existing documentaries and lifestyle programming, including Harry & Meghan, Heart of Invictus and With Love, Meghan.

For now, the available reporting leaves the films' production schedules uncertain. The projects remain a closely watched part of the Sussexes' efforts to build a screen production business, with further announcements needed to establish when audiences might see either adaptation.
