RJ Mitte, the actor best known for portraying Walter "Flynn" White Jr. on Breaking Bad, died by suicide, according to an official inquest report obtained by Page Six. He was 34.
The Cameron County, Texas, records confirm that Mitte was pronounced dead on October 12, 2026. The documents requested an autopsy and toxicology testing, but those results were not included in the records obtained by the publication. His representative had previously confirmed that he died by suicide.
Mitte became familiar to television audiences as the son of Bryan Cranston's Walter White and Anna Gunn's Skyler White. Like his character, Mitte lived with cerebral palsy. His performance gave him an international platform to advocate for greater disability representation in entertainment.
"It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of beloved actor, philanthropist, and passionate disability rights advocate RJ Mitte," his representative said in a statement announcing his death.
Beyond Breaking Bad, Mitte's screen credits included Switched at Birth, The Guardians of Justice, The Recall and The Oak Room. He also served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children's, using his visibility to support people with disabilities and challenge stereotypes.
His commitment to service extended to Brownsville, where he was president of the Roy F. and Joann Cole Mitte Foundation. The City of Brownsville credited him with supporting arts, education and cultural opportunities, including the development of The Mitte: Arts and Cultural Center.
In its tribute, the city remembered a man whose generosity reached well beyond his television career. His work helped make cultural spaces and educational opportunities more accessible to children and families in the community.
Mitte leaves a legacy that joins a memorable television performance with years of public advocacy and community service.
