Newly released police bodycam footage documents the emergency response to Perez Hilton's August mental health crisis, days after his family reported encouraging progress in his recovery.
Page Six reported on November 5 that it obtained a three-minute recording showing first responders bringing the celebrity blogger out of his Miami home on a stretcher and into an ambulance. Hilton's image was blurred in the footage. The recording concerns the August incident, rather than a new emergency.
Hilton, 48, was hospitalized on August 4 following a reported suicide attempt. Authorities said deputies responded to multiple calls concerning his welfare and worked to de-escalate the situation before he was transported for medical treatment. His family subsequently said he required surgery and would face an extended recovery.
The latest family update, published November 3, offered a more hopeful picture. According to Us Weekly's account of the statement, Hilton moved into a partial hospitalization program in October while staying in supportive housing. He continues to receive mental health care.
Approved family visits have also allowed him to reconnect with his children, including an evening celebrating his mother's 73rd birthday. His relatives said they have been learning how much time and support recovery can require, and have not announced a date for his return home.
"Most importantly, we want him to have the time and support he needs to continue making progress," the family said. They also reported that his children are doing well and maintaining their school and everyday activities.
Hilton became widely known through his celebrity gossip website before expanding into television, entertainment commentary and podcasting. As the newly released footage brings renewed attention to his hospitalization, his family's latest account places the focus on continued treatment and time together.
