‘Godzilla Minus Zero’ Eyes No. 1 as ‘Drummer Boy’ Faces Divided Box Office Forecasts

Godzilla Minus Zero is expected to top the U.S. and Canadian box office over the November 6-8 weekend, while sharply different predictions for Angel Studios' Drummer Boy make its debut one of the weekend's biggest uncertainties.

The Numbers' Friday forecast projects a $26.1 million opening for Godzilla Minus Zero, comfortably ahead of The Cat in the Hat, which is expected to earn approximately $13 million. The animated Dr. Seuss adaptation's softer Thursday previews prompted a more cautious outlook heading into the weekend.

Godzilla's anticipated victory is supported by other industry forecasts. Boxoffice Pro places the sequel's opening between $25 million and $35 million, while Box Office Theory predicts $24 million to $33 million. Those estimates point to a clear first-place finish, although the final total will depend on business through Sunday.

For Christian entertainment audiences, Drummer Boy offers another opening to watch. The Numbers forecasts $4.9 million, placing the Angel Studios release sixth. Boxoffice Pro's earlier forecast is considerably more optimistic, projecting $10 million to $15 million and a third-place debut. Box Office Theory falls between those expectations, with a range of $4.5 million to $9.5 million.

Directed by Ben and Joel Smallbone, Drummer Boy is a Revolutionary War musical drama following a young drummer, an enslaved woman and a divided family searching for freedom. The film opens in approximately 2,850 theaters, giving it a substantial national presence as it seeks to draw audiences during its first weekend.

Meanwhile, Martin McDonagh's Wild Horse Nine is projected to take third place in The Numbers' forecast with $7.85 million. Returning titles Clayface and You Can See Everything are expected to follow with $6.6 million and $5.8 million, respectively.

The weekend also brings Jimmy, the Jimmy Stewart biographical drama starring K.J. Apa. Distributor Fathom anticipates approximately $2 million from 1,526 theaters, according to The Numbers.

All figures are preliminary forecasts in U.S. dollars. Weekend estimates may change as additional ticket-sales reports become available.
