Singer-songwriter and healthcare chaplain Rick Lee James has released his original Christmas single, "Lights of Love," on November 6, 2026, across major streaming platforms. Blending heartfelt storytelling with a reflective holiday arrangement, the song offers comfort to those remembering loved ones while navigating the Christmas season.

The release follows an impressive seven-week run on PLAY MPE's Christmas Top 20 charts for both streaming and downloads, where the song reached No. 1.

Originally written for the 35th Annual Lights of Love Celebration at Springfield Regional Medical Center, "Lights of Love" honors the memories of those who are no longer present during the holidays. Through its message, James recognizes that Christmas can bring both celebration and grief, reminding listeners that remembering someone they love can itself become a meaningful expression of love.

The inspiration comes from James's experience as a healthcare chaplain, where he regularly supports patients and families through life's most difficult and significant moments. His work has given him a deeper understanding of the emotions surrounding loss, particularly during a season traditionally associated with joy and togetherness.

James explains that he wanted to create a song that acknowledges both the beauty of Christmas and the sadness of missing someone special, offering listeners space to remember and celebrate the lives of those they hold dear.

Musically, "Lights of Love" features acoustic guitar, piano, shimmering bells, and orchestral strings, creating a warm Christmas ballad inspired by the timeless sounds of holiday music. James performs acoustic guitar, piano, bass, lead vocals, and background vocals, while Craig Adams contributes keyboards, bells, strings, and percussion. The recording was produced in cooperation with Parafonic Studios, with Brandon Shattuck handling mixing and mastering.

Beyond the Christmas release, James is also preparing new music for 2027 with "I Bowed My Head and Closed My Eyes," featuring legendary guitarist Phil Keaggy, drummer Anthony Morra, and Nathan Lain.

The upcoming folk-inspired recording reflects on the biblical parable of the Good Samaritan, exploring the responsibility to recognize and care for people experiencing hardship. Continuing his emphasis on faith, compassion, and the human experience, James uses thoughtful songwriting to encourage listeners to look beyond themselves and respond to the needs of others.
