Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato's nostalgic Rare Beauty collaboration has sparked fresh questions about their friendship, with an unnamed source telling Page Six that the former Disney Channel stars have reconciled without returning to their former closeness.
"Demi and Selena are not best friends," the source claimed in the November 8 report, adding that they had repaired their relationship sufficiently to be on better terms. The assessment represents the source's account of their private relationship.
The campaign, titled "Still Making Each Other Blush," reunited Gomez and Lovato for photographs inspired by their 2009 Disney film Princess Protection Program. Wearing their characters' familiar blue and yellow dresses, the pair recreated the movie's poster and revived the playful webcam videos they made as teenagers.
The collaboration promotes the Delena blush set, named after the nickname fans gave their friendship.
The limited-edition bundle pairs two existing Soft Pinch Liquid Blush shades: Hope, Gomez's selection, and Virtue, Lovato's choice. In a statement accompanying the campaign, Lovato described working together as a return to the days when they made videos and experimented with makeup in their bedrooms.
Lovato's own recent comments also describe a connection extending beyond work. Speaking to ELLE on October 28, she acknowledged that their friendship had passed through different stages, including periods of less frequent communication.
"Selena is someone that I've always loved and adored," she said, explaining that they were now able to collaborate and spend time together socially.
Gomez likewise shared an affectionate Instagram tribute, reflecting on their shared childhood and the changes their friendship had undergone. "I love you with all my heart," she wrote.
The reunion follows years of public distance. In 2020, Lovato told Harper's BAZAAR that she and Gomez were no longer friends, while expressing continued affection for her former co-star. Their latest collaboration, and their own statements, mark a warmer public chapter in that relationship.
