Country superstar Morgan Wallen has spoken out after criticism erupted over the cancellation of his June 6 concert at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh.
The show was called off on Saturday after Wallen's team consulted with local officials regarding forecasts of severe weather, including potentially dangerous winds. In a video posted to Instagram Stories later that evening, Wallen said he trusted the information provided by his team and local authorities when making the decision.
"I have a large stage that, in those conditions, could become fatal to a lot of folks around it. So I did the best I could with the information I had in that moment."
Wallen acknowledged that the severe weather had not yet reached Pittsburgh when the cancellation was announced, but noted that storms had already affected other parts of Pennsylvania. He emphasized that fan and crew safety remained the primary concern.
The singer also addressed online speculation surrounding the cancellation, saying he had seen "a lot of nonsense" being circulated about him and wanted to "clear the air."
"I think my true fans know that that's not how I operate in general."
The controversy intensified after some fans pointed out that weather conditions later in the evening appeared relatively calm. Social media users questioned whether the cancellation had been necessary, with some suggesting Wallen had left the city before the final decision was communicated.
Local media personality Marty Griffin claimed on social media that stadium officials were frustrated because Wallen had allegedly departed Pittsburgh before a scheduled meeting regarding the event. Neither Wallen's team nor stadium officials publicly confirmed those claims.
The cancellation came one day after Wallen successfully completed the first of his two scheduled Pittsburgh performances. During that June 5 concert, he was joined for his trademark walkout by Kurt Angle.
The incident highlights the difficult decisions artists and promoters face when severe weather threatens large outdoor stadium events. While some fans remained frustrated, Wallen maintained that the cancellation was based on safety assessments available at the time rather than conditions that ultimately materialized.
