Jay-Z will headline the Super Bowl LXI halftime show, the NFL, Apple Music, and Roc Nation announced Monday night.
The news came during halftime of the Philadelphia Eagles-Dallas Cowboys game on "Monday Night Football," confirming reports from last week that the rap mogul had chosen himself for the spot.
When and where is it? Super Bowl LXI will be played Feb. 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. ABC and ESPN will broadcast the game, and Disney+ will stream it.
Why this is a big moment: Despite years of working behind the scenes, Jay-Z has never performed at the Super Bowl himself. His company, Roc Nation, has helped produce the halftime show since 2019 and recently signed a five-year extension through 2029. When the partnership began, he reportedly told NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell he would end the conversation if it was about him performing.
In a statement, Jay-Z reflected on his path from his debut album "Reasonable Doubt" to the halftime stage, saying "this has been a journey." Goodell said he has seen the "extraordinary impact" Jay-Z has had on the show. Roc Nation will executive produce, with Hamish Hamilton directing.
The 25-time Grammy winner has spent this year touring for the 30th anniversary of "Reasonable Doubt" and the 25th anniversary of "The Blueprint." He follows Bad Bunny, who headlined last season.
Fans are already guessing who might join him on stage, but no guests have been confirmed.
