Erika Kirk, the widow of Charlie Kirk, has spoken out after a weekend of controversy over jokes about her husband's death.
In a Sunday, Nov. 8, post on X, Kirk wrote that seeing "leftist podcasters, comedians, and commentators" laugh about political assassination was "beyond disgusting."
She added that her husband "was killed in an act of political violence" that she and their two children will live with every day, and wrote that a culture that laughs at assassination is "one of profound moral decay." She also said political violence must never be tolerated, excused, or celebrated.
The post came as comedian Dave Chappelle faced backlash over a Charlie Kirk joke at Madison Square Garden. Podcast hosts Jennifer Welch and Angie Sullivan also apologized for laughing at a joke about Kirk on their show, I've Had It. Chappelle has not publicly addressed the backlash in the reports reviewed.
Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, often spoke publicly about his Christian faith. He died in September 2025 after he was fatally shot while speaking at a college event in Utah County, Utah. His widow now leads the organization.
Erika Kirk has previously spoken about the moment she forgave her husband's killer. In a December 2025 CBS town hall preview, she said of people who celebrated his death, "I pray that God saves you."
