Christian singer-songwriter Les Traylor has released his powerful new single "Walk Through the Fire," a bold Southern Rock anthem that calls believers to stand firm in their faith when conviction is tested. Inspired by the biblical account of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in Book of Daniel, the song blends gritty guitars, driving rhythms, and unwavering spiritual conviction to deliver a message of courage, perseverance, and trust in God's presence even in the fiercest trials. Rooted in both Scripture and Traylor's own life experiences as a combat veteran and man of faith, the single challenges listeners to remain steadfast, confident that God walks with them through every fire.
Q: You are a retired U.S. Army Special Forces veteran, a formally trained musician, and a man of deep faith. Beyond those titles, who is Les Traylor at his core?
Those titles are a part of who I am and have certainly been influential in shaping me as a person by instilling discipline and dedication. However, they aren't solely how I identify myself. At my core, I see myself as a person who is deeply committed to the service of others-whether that's my family, neighbors, or church. Someone who wants others to feel loved and accepted.
Q: "Walk Through the Fire" draws inspiration from Daniel 3 and the courage to stand firm under pressure. How has your own life experience shaped your understanding of that kind of unwavering faith?
We've all had moments in our lives when we were faced with a choice to resist the temptation or compromise our beliefs. Like everyone else, I've faced moments where I had to do a gut check and choose the "hard right" thing. As a husband and dad, I also want my wife and kids to see that I am a man of character-not just a guy who talks big until things get tough, but a man who puts my faith into action as an example of Christ to them. People are drawn to strength, and they are watching us live our lives as an example of what a strong and faithful Christian looks like.
Q: The song boldly addresses cultural pressure, persecution, and the temptation to compromise. Where do you believe believers today are most tested, and what message were you determined to communicate through this release?
Yeah, in today's world there are so many pressures to follow what the world has to offer rather than what God is offering through Jesus. Culture is pushing acceptance of things that are counter to what we believe as Christians, and when we push back we are targeted or required to submit. So the message I want to share is that it's okay to stand for what you believe, have courage in the face of impending trouble, and to know that in the struggle you are not alone. Jesus is with you in those moments.
Q: With its Southern Rock intensity and driving instrumentation, the song carries both grit and conviction. What was your vision sonically, and how did working with Mitch Dane help bring that vision to life?
Thanks for the opportunity to shout out to Mitch. My vision for "Walk Through the Fire" was for it to be edgy. I wanted it to be the kind of song that makes you want to face into the storm and shake your fist defiantly because you know God is on your side. When I first gave it to Mitch, it was bare bones, but he helped to create the sound for the ideas I pitched to him. We've worked together on other projects and each time he delivers. He is a master engineer and producer. Mitch is also a great collaborative partner-whether it's smoothing out the melodic flow, changing a lyric to express a line better, or removing elements to make the song more impactful, his input is vital. This is huge as an artist because he hears things that the person in the booth doesn't always hear.
Q: Much of your music speaks to redemption, restoration, and the hidden battles faced by veterans. How does "Walk Through the Fire" connect to your heart for those struggling with PTSD, loss, or silent pain?
As a combat veteran I know the pains and struggles of my fellow service members firsthand. I think my message to them is that I've walked the same path and found healing and strength in God. My faith in Jesus, the Bible and, importantly, a community of Christian believers have been my guide to resilience and overcoming the tragedies of the past. In the fire, it feels like there is no way out, but Jesus has given me purpose and direction so I can thrive. He wants the same for them too.
Q: Your upcoming single "Right Here" is on the horizon. What can listeners expect from that release, and how does it build on or expand the message you've established with "Walk Through the Fire"?
I've come to realize that after every trial I've experienced in life there is always a period of rest-a chance to get your equilibrium. "Right Here" has a more worshipful posture. It reflects back to a time in life when things weren't going well and recognizes God's presence in those moments. The song expresses a quiet confidence and desire for closeness with Christ as a result of that shared experience with Him.
