Sarah Jakes Roberts, co-senior pastor of The Potter's House of Dallas, is recovering after a serious trampoline accident that nearly left her paralyzed, according to a personal update shared on social media.
Roberts, who leads the Dallas-based megachurch alongside her husband Touré Roberts, revealed that the incident occurred on Saturday, April 18, while she was playing with her daughter. During the activity, she landed on her neck, immediately sensing something was wrong.
"Last night was scary. I was almost paralyzed, but God didn't see fit to let that be my story," Roberts shared, describing the terrifying moment.
She recounted hearing multiple "pops" in her neck upon impact, prompting her daughter to call for help. Emergency responders transported her for medical care, where she underwent extensive evaluation.
Doctors later confirmed that Roberts sustained a fractured neck, herniated discs, and trauma to critical areas of her spine-injuries that, she noted, could have easily resulted in paralysis under slightly different circumstances.
"One disc up or one disc lower, and this would've been a different testimony," she explained.
Roberts will now wear a neck brace for four to six weeks as part of her recovery, focusing on rest and limited movement to allow her body to heal properly. Despite the severity of the incident, she expressed gratitude and faith in the outcome.
"I'm soaking in the presence and kindness of God and in the love of friends and family," she wrote, adding that she plans to "lie low" during the recovery process.
The daughter of T.D. Jakes, Roberts stepped into her current leadership role last year following a transition in senior leadership at the church. Today, The Potter's House of Dallas remains one of the largest congregations in the United States, drawing tens of thousands weekly.
As news of the accident spreads, many across the faith community are rallying in prayer for her continued healing. Roberts' message, marked by both vulnerability and hope, has already resonated widely as a testimony of resilience and faith in the face of a life-altering scare.
