Steven Curtis Chapman took his 25-year-old 9/11 tribute song to national television this week, performing "Remember the Day" live just days after finally releasing the studio recording.
Chapman appeared on "Live with Kelly and Mark" on September 11, delivering what the show described as a stirring rendition of the song ahead of Patriot Day, alongside fellow guests Theo James and Sherri Shepherd. He also sat down with "Fox & Friends" to walk through the song's origin story - how he wrote it in 2002, one year after the attacks, for a remembrance concert in New York, and never officially recorded it until this year's 25th anniversary.
The televised performances mark the most public moment yet in the song's decades-long journey from a single live performance to a fully released single. As previously reported, Chapman wrote "Remember the Day" to help process the nation's grief and to honor those who died on September 11, 2001, drawing on Romans 12:21 - "Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good" - as the verse that has anchored the song's message since he first sang it.
With the studio version now streaming and this week's TV appearances behind him, Chapman heads into his fall tour with "Remember the Day" as one of the most personally significant songs he's ever put to record.
